In 2007, Norwegian architectural firm Snøhetta was selected to design the King Abdelaziz Center for World Culture. On May 20, 2008 the cornerstone was laid by King Abdullah. Ten years later the modern landmark is complete. Evocative of Stonehenge, the complex arranges a powerful middle stone suspended above ground while remaining elements reinforce the foundation.
